TREND: Sweater + Pant

I always wanted to learn how to knit so that I can make my own sweaters, scarfs, snoods and beanies, the perfect items to fight the cold weather without loosing a bit of style. The oversized and cozy Nolita Sweater  is in my wish list this year, it can be made easily with a kit containing the pattern and materials that we need, you can find it in weareknitters.com

Meanwhile, here is a post about how to combine sweaters with pants, that can be a casual and chic look at the same time. Whether you're heading to work or a party, or either to buy your daily grocery, it will be your favourite appearance this winter.

How to wear: Floral Scarf

My personal experience with scarfs is so wide, that I can't even remember the very first scarf I wore.
In my first years I prefered the plain ones, without any print or a single detail that will get me noticeable more than I already am.

However, through several years of building a true relationship with that unique and indispensable
piece of my daily outfits, I get to learn which fabrics, forms, types, and prints that favor me as well as be my own signature.

Thus, The floral scarf became my best friend, since all my tiptop outfits were linked with it.
This type of scarfs can be worn in any event, whether it's a work place, or a simple walk.

Here are various images to be inspired by.

Key Piece: The White Shirt

The white shirt is a basic piece in every woman's closet, despite the ever-changing scene of fashion, it stays iconic and classic. Adding a white shirt to your look gives an effortless appearence, and it can be assembled with many of your outfits. I prefer the plane ones with buttons up and small collars.

I collected some looks from this fall-winter season of 2012, hoping to provide you the missing piece of the puzzle; that you need, to look great with almost everything (maxi skirts, sleevles dresses, pleated skirts, jumpsuits and chino pants).

Guest Post: Suit Yourself

Thanks to Yves Saint Laurent the suit have been reinvented to fit the feminine closet, and this fall-winter season it's the most wanted trend, reshaped by the designers and embraced by fashionistas.

If you want to see the full post, and discover different ways to wear it with elegance, visit the guest post, hosted by the lovely Jana Kossaibati, in her blog hijab style.

Fashion Twist: Divergent

When I first read the dystopian book Divergent, I was amazed by the way the author Veronica Roth divided personalities to five main, as well as dominant, identities or factions.
- Candor : the honest, wearing only black&white.
- Abnegation : the selfless, wearing just a grey palette.
- Dauntless : the brave, wearing the rebel's color black.
- Amity : the peaceful, combining the red&yellow in their outfits.
- Erudite : the intelligent, must bear atleast one blue item.
Later on, I assimilated entirely the idea of being different, and at the same time undoubtedly usefull.

If I were a character in this fiction, I would definitely be a Divergent. Why??
Well because, I might be a serene girl (Amity), however when provoked, I can easily metamorphose into a fierce warrior (Dauntless), without forgetting to use my brain( (Erudite).

I can't wait to see the movie, and to find out how it will be like the wardrobe of each faction.
In the meantime let's have a close look to the spring/summer runways of 2013, and forecasting which designer had the right guess.

The MAXI dress is the perfect choice for a special occasion (for example new year's eve).

If you're running out of new ideas on how to pull off this trend, you can get inspired from the best.

How To Wear : Boyish Style

Boy Meets Girl

Garçon manqué, or in other words Tomboy, is the perfect style in this cold weather, for girls who don't mind to hide their forms, and exhibit only their inner charm

This look's characteristic are very simple:
- Oversized pants, blazers, coats, shirts.
- Dark & cool colors.
- Wool, leather, tweed, knit.
- Attitude & more Attitude.

You can add a feminine touch to your outfit by adorning it with accesories, such as statement collars, leather clutchs or gloves, and/or right shoes.

'' In the depth of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.  ''

     Albert Camus

" Patchwork or "pieced work" is a form of needlework that involves sewing together pieces of fabric into a larger design based on repeat patterns, built up with different fabric shapes; carefully measured and cut to make them easy to piece together "

In September 2006, Marc Jacobs delighted us with a casual spring/summer collection from New York, one of his main inspiration was the patchwork.

This trend is back, WHY?
Well, only WGSN can answer us.

WGSN is an agency that provides fashion and design businesses with the intelligence to drive commercially successful products and services.
This same agency predicated the return of the PATCHWORK trend this summer/spring 2013, the explanation of such fact is the new language of youth people defined by COPY-PASTE from the internet, this phenomenon is called the generation JPEG.

Let's see how the designers played with this emerging trend. Get inspired!

ZOON IN: Dries Van Noten

Dries Van Noten

A Belgian fashion designer and an eponymous fashion brand. In 2005, the New York Times described him "one of fashion's most cerebral designers". His style is said to be "eccentric", and fell out of favor during the long period of minimalistic fashion in the early 1990s, only to make a come back towards the mid 2000s, culminating with Van Noten's winning of the International Award of the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2008.

Dries Van Noten has, once again, showed us that words like simplicity and rusticity are not included in his dictionary, neither in his collection this summer 2013 .

From plaid pattern, floral print, 3D flowers, silky shirts and dresses, oversized forms to a multiple layering, the collection was a clear statement that women can perfectly manage through summer heat without necessarily taking off their clothes.

The plaid pattern and matching it with floral print was originaly worn by the famous teenager of the 90's Tv show 'My so called life' Angela Chase, who's wardrobe made her character a fashionable but yet decontracté teen, dealing with adolescent's life.

Can't wait for the next summer to see our-favourite-designer-of-all-time's collection being adapted to fit the street style taste and need.

How to wear : One Tone

Colors aren't very welcomed in women  wardrobes, especially in winter time. This may be due to the difficulty of wearing and combining brights colors with everyday outfits (wich most of them are in black, grey or navy blue).

Well, what about going against human nature and wearing the most feared trend ever!!

This editorials are a convincing proof of how beautiful and easy is the fact of coloring our winter, get inspired and go for it girls!!!

“Anyone can get dressed up and glamorous, but it is how people dress in their days off that are the most intriguing.”      - Alexander Wang

DIY for do it yourself, isn't a new phonomenon, it influence is so obvious that many bloggers began dictating fashion with their original tutorials and ideas.
In the runways, lately we're seeing a lot of handmade items, for example the next season (spring/summer) many designers used beautiful applications with flowers of all kinds to add a childish and cute effect to basic outfits.
Here are a preview of what will be the buzz of the next season.

ZOOM IN #1 : 3.1 Phillip Lim S/S 2013

Phillip Lim

born in 1973, in Cambodia, he is a fashion designer of Chinese ancestry.
He was awarded the 2007 Council of Fashion Designers of America Emerging Talent in Womenswear award for his work as creative director of 3.1 Phillip Lim.
He worked at the label Development from 2000 to 2004, and has been the head of 3.1 Phillip Lim which launched in the fall of 2005 to present.

This spring/summer 2013 the designer have so much to offer and to inspire us in our next outfits.

He used the 'Cut-up' technique, in other words patchwork, to produce such a rich collection replete with mixed and matched items: Denim, pants, and tops.

FYI:The 'Cut-up' technique has been used by authors and artists to juxtapose contexts within a work. And then later used by songs writers to compose lyrics with what they cut from magazines and books.

He also applied in his collection the most wanted and sought features this summer: Silk Sheers (see-through fabrics), the famous floral print (the woodland scenery) and the shredded pieces.

Inspiring from the one and only Marlon Brando, he designed a modern and in the same time femenine biker.

The Outline is that this collection will be the most followed and inspired by.

FASHION TWIST #1: Heroines special edition

Women are not only supporting actresses they can also be the heroines of their own life (...I mean movie!!)
The releases of 2012 gave us 6 heroines to look up to.

The 21rst Century was an introducing of  empowered women, they no longer seek help or approval from anyone, but they fight for their own rights.

In the runways there are some inpirations of these heroines, get inspired!

 Breaking News:

The Denim Pant has some competion this fall/winter 2012.

Pants were a symbol of masculinity, until women claimed it as a main piece of the femenine wardrobe.

And they succeded by reinventing the most wanted item in this whole world.

They are getting  more & more unconventional, thanks to designers like Ralph Lauren, Tracey Reese and Chanel.

Here are some of their suggestions on how to wear the new pant.

This summer/spring we are going to dress with flying colours

Who says fashion has one colour?
Any colour will flatter you, because the runway dictated that.

And the UNTHINKABLE happened!

This fall/winter season, the ' skirt over pant ' was introduced in the A-list by the best designers, like Marc Jacobs, Vivienne Tam, and the genius Hussein Chalayan .

We had always thought that this trend was unwearable, and difficult to pull up a fresh and modern outfit with it .

However, and against all odds, the ' skirt + pant'  (How about we call it SKANT, ^_^ ) became the MUST this fall.

Let's summarize  our designer's recommendation

FLASHFORWARD # 1 : Indian Summer

We can't wait for the next summer to come, because then we can fully live our INDIAN summer.

Forget about the sweetness of november, and prepare yourself to catch a desi fever.

Karl Lagerfeld has proved through chanel's prefall collection, that india is the next fashion destination.

BIG; OVERSIZED; LARGE;  that’s how your winter coat must be this season.

Designers like Isabel Marant, Dolce&Gabbana, ETRO and Chloé have created large volume coats for everyone's taste.
